Annual Awards (June – Advocacy Theme)

RI ACEP held its Annual Meeting on June 24, 2026 at Squantum Bake House in Riverside.

The evening began with a cocktail reception where attendees could visit sponsor exhibits.

Over dinner, six awards were presented to outstanding emergency physicians and a seventh award was given to the Chief of a local EMS department. Additionally, outgoing RI ACEP Executive Director Ali Walz was honored.

Finally, the evening ended on a high note with a lively keynote lecture by Chief John Moon, who spoke about the legacy of Freedom House Ambulance, the country’s first ambulance service to be staffed by paramedics. Founded in 1967 in the predominantly Black Hill District of Pittsburgh, the service ran until 1975, when it was absorbed by the city.
